I was delighted to be invited to be a Vice-Patron of Prostate UK and to follow in the footsteps of my predecessor, Archbishop Robert Runcie who so keenly supported the charity as Vice-President for six years until his death in 2000.
Since it was founded in 1993, Prostate UK has emerged to be at the forefront of research and advice at national level in this particular field. A great deal has been achieved in a relatively short space of time and this is in itself testimony to those who have given of their time, professional expertise and resources to support this worthwhile cause. Prostate UK continues to be a dynamic and efficient organisation and has an increasing support base at national level. It is distinctive in the long list of UK medical charities as it specifically tackles all prostate diseases.
Prostate UK must therefore take credit for its part in bringing into the public domain this somewhat invisible and even sensitive area of men’s health and well-being. I applaud the charity’s achievements and send my best wishes for its ongoing work.
