October 2009, The Annual Luncheon
Our 2009 Annual Luncheon at The Dorchester was held in the presence of
our Patron Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester. It was a magnificent
event with well over 300 supporters attending and raising over £50,000.
We were entertained by our guest speakers, Louise Howe, a practice nurse
and a student of our Prostate Master Class, and Brett Jones, who graced
the fourth plinth in wacky golden pants for Prostate UK.
Thank you to all of our supporters who attended and to everyone who donated the superb auction items. We are also extremely grateful to those people who so generously bid on items and to our auctioneer Nick Martineau from Christies.
August 2009, London Triathlon
Hundreds of competitors and supporters braved the English weather over
two days to participate in The London Triathlon which returned once again
to the ExCeL centre. Team Prostate UK had 9 daring triathletes who participated
in all disciplines of the event - ranging from the Super Sprint to the
Olympic race. If you are interested in taking part next year, please
contact us on 0208 394 7969.
June 2009, Round the Island Race
The 55 mile sail around the Isle of Wight with 1,600 boats and 12,000 participants
is an amazing spectacle. Prostate UK was delighted to have one of four
sponsored boats in JP Morgan's annual charity challenge. Our crew was
made up of supporters Jim Meacham, and Philip Cave, who have both been
affected by prostate diseases, plus the comedian Dave Spikey and his
wife Kay. They were out on the water and hard at work for over 12 hours,
before getting to the finish line to claim second place in the challenge.
We also had two other boats racing for Prostate UK. A big thank you to
Robin Wood and Team 'Duet' who have both raised valuable sponsorship
money to support our work. Prostate UK will be entering two boats into
the 2010 charity challenge if you would like to join us please contact
Kerry on 020 8394 7969 or email kerry.johns@prostateuk.org.
June 2009, Pants in the Park
Thanks to the support of Simplyhealth, June was once again awash with people
in their pants. Six parks were taken over by our supporters in their
decorated pants as we raised awareness and funds with our 5km fun runs
in Andover, Bristol, Gateshead, Leeds, London, and Manchester. Pants
in the Park 2009 had more runners than ever before surpassing the 1,000
mark! The support that Prostate UK received this year was overwhelming;
even the weather was on our side with the sun shining at every event
despite severe weather warnings.
Plans are afoot to include venues in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff for 2010 making it a truly national event and we hope to see you resplendent in your decorated pants at Pants in the Park 2010! Visit our Pants in the Park website for details on next years races as well as our photo gallery from past Pants events.

successful Hike For Hope, which raised funds jointly for Prostate UK
and Wellbeing of Women (WoW). This year's hike raised over £350,000 for
the two charities and turned out to be one of the most spectacular and
varied desert treks. For further information or to sign up please visit www.actionforcharity.co.uk.
