| MY PSA LEVELS HAVE DOUBLED - DO I NEED A BIOPSY?

A 61-year-old Dorset academic has written about his rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA). This has doubled within a year and tripled within two years - previously it was the same year after year. He is fit, watches his diet but for the past few years has had to get up at night to pass urine, for which he takes saw palmetto. Is the PSA test useful and should he ask for a biopsy?
